New Year’s Resolutions Without Pressure for Families 🎉

I have always been a resolution-type of person. The kind who enjoys fresh starts and a clean page. 🙂

I love assessing where I am and where I want to go. So naturally, as the year comes to an end, my mind gets busy. I start looking back at my goals, my wins, and the things I could have done better.

The other day, I shared my resolutions for the coming year with my parents, and my mom jokingly told me she’s done making New Year’s resolutions. Out of ten, she only kept one. I’m sure many of us can relate to that.

That made me think.
What are resolutions really?

Are they impossible promises we make when the year feels full of hope?
Or are they simply a way to pause and ask: Am I living the life I want to live?

To me, resolutions aren’t about perfection.
They’re about direction.

They don’t have to be big or dramatic.
They can be small steps.
Tiny practices that slowly shape the path we want to walk.

I’m trying to pass this on to my girls, so as a family, we keep it simple. Each of us writes two things we want to work on for the year ahead, seals them in an envelope, and saves them. The next year, we open them together and share.

I think it’s a fun way to check in with our dreams, and what really matters to us.

Because a resolution isn’t something you fail at.
It’s something you practice.

If you’re interested in giving it a try with no pressure at all, here are some ideas you can do with your kids:

💛 Ask them to draw or write under these prompts:

  • Something I want to learn

  • Something I want to try

  • Something I want to get better at

💛 You can also fill out a family worksheet together, just for fun.

That’s it. No rules. No right answers. Just curiosity and fun. You might be surprised by their answers.

I know resolutions are not for everybody, and that’s okay. We all have different ways of living life. 🙂
If you enjoy making resolutions and have helpful tips to share, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Until next time,
Monica
